Kid's Hope Tutoring
TCF has "adopted" Kendall-Whittier Elementary School, the local public school which serves the neighborhood where TCF is located, and sends more than a dozen members into the school weekly for one-on-one tutoring with elementary-age students. TCF's Kids Hope, affiliated with the national Kids Hope USA also has special events, including meals, picnics, puppet shows and other things during the course of the year, where tutored children and their families interact with tutors. In the summer of 2004, Kids Hope also offered Lava Lava Island in July, a fun Vacation Bible school, for Kids Hope kids and their friends and siblings, other neighborhood kids, and TCF kids - more than 40 attended the five day event. The following year the Serengeti Trek, was offered to Kids Hope kids and TCF neighborhood children as well. In 2006, it was the Treasure Cove VBS that many Kids Hope kids enjoyed along with their friends from the neighborhood.
New tutors are needed each year. Contact theTCF church office for more information.
Kids Hope is under the direction of Charlene Dunn, and includes about a dozen teenage and adult volunteers.
